Kitty Drug Use

Okay, not "Drug Use", but "Supplement Use"

Supplements, Supplements, Supplements - are they necessary for your cat?  If you listen to manufacturers, you will certainly think so.  Vitamin Pills, Calcium Tablets, Brewer's Yeast, Cod Liver Oil, Shark Cartilage, and on and on and on.  You can spend a literal fortune.

The question is, does your favorite feline NEED those extra vitamins, minerals and other exotic ingredients?  The truth?  Probably not.

You see, if you feed your cat a good quality cat food, your kitty will mostly likely be getting all that she needs.  The operative words here are 'good quality'.  You want the food that you buy to emulate, as closely as possible, the diet Kitty would get in the wild - high protein, fat, water content food with 10% or less in carbohydrates.  Make sure the protein is a good quality and hasn't been processed at an extremely high heat levels.  Canned foods or homemade foods are a much better option that dry foods because of the water content of the food.

Is it every a good idea to give your cat supplements?  The answer is yes in some circumstances.  If you cat is recovering from an illness, has been fed with low-quality food for a long time or has been feed an imbalanced home-diet, he may benefit from some additional supplementation.  The important thing is to consult your vet before you start.

To your cat's health!
